The Premier Community Builders program partners industry leaders with Workers Defense Project to guarantee that Austin’s economic growth is founded on safe, reliable jobs with fair compensation that reward hard work. Certified by Workers Defense Project, Premier Community Builders create pathways out of poverty while constructing high-quality, environmentally friendly buildings in Texas’ capital.
Workers Defense Project is a non-profit and community center that advocates for better working conditions for low-wage workers, primarily construction workers. WDP has strong tradition of ensuring fair and safe employment in the construction industry by:
- Providing direct services to construction workers
- Providing English classes and other adult education programs
- Providing OSHA 10 safety courses along with other certified safety programs at little or no cost.
- Researching industry trends and developing best practice recommendations for policymakers and industry leaders.
- Partnering with local, state, and federal governments to create policies to promote construction safety and prevent wage theft.
